The Fall Guy starring Ryan Gosling has been given a new release date: May 3, 2024.
Universal Pictures had originally slated the action thriller for release on March 1 next year, but has now delayed the film’s debut until May.
Deadpool 3 was also due to debut on May 3 but was recently bumped to July 26 in a Marvel release date reshuffle, making its original date a more attractive prospect for other studios.
The Fall Guys stars Ryan Gosling as Colt Seavers, a former stuntman who is dragged back into the industry when the star of a mega-budget blockbuster (played by Aaron Taylor Johnson) goes missing.
Here’s the official synopsis:
“He’s a stuntman, and like everyone in the stunt community, he gets blown up, shot, crashed, thrown through windows, and dropped from the highest of heights, all for our entertainment. And now, fresh off an almost career-ending accident, this working-class hero has to track down a missing movie star, solve a conspiracy, and try to win back the love of his life while still doing his day job. What could possibly go right?”
Alongside Gosling and Johnson are Emily Blunt as director (and Seavers’ ex) Jody Moreno, as well as Hannah Waddingham as the film’s ruthless producer. Deadpool 2 and Bullet Train director David Leitch is helming the movie based on a screenplay by Drew Pearce.
The Fall Guy is based on the original TV series that debuted on ABC in 1981 and ran for five seasons until 1986. The original show starred Lee Majors as Colt and Heather Thomas as Jody and followed the stuntman-turned-bounty-hunter who used his skills in auto-stunts to track down criminals. Original star Majors will make an appearance in the movie.
