First Madame Web Trailer Reveals All-Female Spider-Heroes, Spider-Man-Like Villain

Sony Pictures Entertainment has released the debut trailer for upcoming superhero movie Madame Web.

Madame Web, due to hit theaters February 16, 2024, is connected to the Spider-Man cinematic universe, although it's described as a "standalone origin story". Madame Web, real name Cassandra Webb, is a mutant with clairvoyant powers who has been associated with various Spider-Women in the comics. The movie is set before Madame Web is in the wheelchair she uses in the comics.

Jessica Jones director S.J. Clarkson helms Sony's first female-led Marvel movie, with Dakota Johnson starring as the title character, and Sydney Sweeney playing Julia Carpenter/Spider-Woman. Also starring are Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott.

The trailer reveals the four-women team-up, as well as the Spider-Man-like villain, Ezekiel "Zeke" Sims, played by Tahar Rahim. We also see Madame Web appear to redo a fight after a defeat she has seen ahead of time with her clairvoyant powers.

To find out more about Madame Web and what the debut trailer is hinting at, be sure to check out IGN's feature on why Sony's latest Spider-Man spinoff probably isn't what it seems.

Here's the synopsis:

"In a switch from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing's most enigmatic heroines. The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures... if they can all survive a deadly present."

Madame Web is one of many Spider-Man spinoffs in the works at Sony. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is set to star in Kraven the Hunter in August 2024. Tom Hardy will reprise his role as Venom in the third film in the series, due out November 2024. There's also El Muerto and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse coming up. Morbius, starring Jared Leto as the titular vampire anti-hero, came out last year.
