The LEGO Titanic Is Still on Backorder Almost 5 Years After Release

The massive LEGO Titanic set is still on backorder through LEGO, even after almost five years since its original release date. You can make your purchase directly through LEGO for $679.99, and if you reserve one now it won't ship out until a few weeks from now. Why's this a big deal? The LEGO Titanic set has continued to go in and out of stock for years now and never not been on backorder when it is actually available. It's a LEGO exclusive, so you can't actually buy it anywhere except at the LEGO store.

The Titanic Set Is Only Available at the LEGO Store

This set is both one of the biggest and one of the most expensive kits LEGO has ever released. For a bit of context on just how massive it is, IGN's own Kevin Wong was able to build the titanic (nailed it) set, and said of the almost 10,000-piece build that "[t]his is a rewarding, relaxing build, ideally spread over the course of three to four weeks". The sheer size and scale of the build isn't the most impressive part, either. You can break the ship into sections to get a look at the inside features, like the hundreds of rooms and suites, the engine room, recreational areas, the dining hall, and so much more. The level of detail on this across the board is extremely impressive, both on the inside components and the decoration on deck.

Once you're finally finished putting it all together, it comes with some brick-built display boards and an information plaque that looks great on display, if you're able to find room for it; this bad boy is over 50in. long, or just over four feet, and almost a foot-and-a-half tall.

Why is the LEGO Titanic so popular?

The LEGO Titanic has been popular since it first released in 2021 for a few different reasons. It's a massive set with astonishing attention to detail that appeals to many adult LEGO collectors. That same attention to detail is also what draws the eye of engineering and history enthusiasts.

As for why it's always on backorder, that's likely due to its status as a LEGO Store exclusive. Some of the best places to buy LEGO sets outside of the LEGO Store don't carry the Titanic set in stock. You can find the set from third-party sellers at a marked up price, but for the most part, it's only ever available at one place.
