Maxima Confirmed for Superman Follow-Up Man of Tomorrow, Four Finalists Reportedly Up for the Role

Superman follow-up Man of Tomorrow will feature Maxima, and DC Studios chief James Gunn reportedly has four finalists for the role to choose from.

Maxima made her debut in Action Comics number 645, published in 1989. In that story, the super powerful alien warrior queen from the planet Almerac comes to Earth looking for Superman. In their culture, the ruling family would breed with the strongest of their subjects, usually from a different species, in order to enhance their bloodline. The time had come for Maxima to seek a mate worthy of her interest, and she identifies Superman as fitting the bill. Eventually, Maxima becomes a superheroine of sorts and a member of the Justice League. Maxima was played by Charlotte Sullivan in Smallville, and Eve Torres Gracie in Supergirl.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, four actors recently tested for Maxima in Man of Tomorrow: Adria Arjona; Eva De Dominici; Sydney Chandler; and Grace Van Patten.

Adria Arjona is perhaps best known for playing Bix Caleen in Star Wars show Andor. Eva De Dominici is an Argentine model and actress who starred in sci-fi movie Cosmic Sin and The Cleaning Lady. Sydney Chandler played the lead role in Alien: Earth, which is due a sequel. And Grace Van Patten starred in the likes of Tramps, The Meyerowitz Stories, Tell Me Lies, and The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.

With Maxima in Man of Tomorrow, it’s easy to imagine at least a part of the movie being about Superman fending her off as she hunts for a suitable mate (Lois Lane probably won’t be impressed, either).

Whoever wins the role will join returning stars David Corenswet as Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Rachel Brosnahan as the aforementioned Lois Lane, and the rest of the Justice League members we saw in last year’s DC Universe kickstarter. Lars Eidinger plays Brainiac, with Lanterns star Aaron Pierre also due to appear.

Ahead of Man of Tomorrow’s release on July 9, 2027, DC Studios will release Supergirl this summer. Based on the recent trailer, Superman turns up briefly to express concern about his cousin. We also see Jason Momoa’s Lobo in all his glory.
