A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms 4K UHD Release Confirmed for June, Now Up for Preorder

Here’s some good news for anyone who enjoys sinking into a rich and meaty TV show: you can now preorder the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in 4K. This is the delightful series based on George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg stories, which just concluded its inaugural season on HBO. It’s available to preorder at Amazon on 4K Blu-ray for $34.98, with a release date of June 16.

Preorder A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 in 4K

The first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is comprised of six relatively bite-sized episodes that mostly take place around a jousting tournament. It follows the unlikely pairing of the hedge knight Sir Duncan the Tall and his sassy squire Egg. It’s set roughly 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and doesn’t require any series knowledge to enjoy. It’s a self-contained story, even if some characters’ family trees stretch back or forth in time to the other Westeros-set shows.

For my money, nobody writes an odd couple like George R.R. Martin. Whether his Game of Thrones series is pairing up Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth or Arya and the Hound, it’s fun to follow his characters on whatever adventures they find themselves in. Needless to say, I loved A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Dunk and Egg forge an unlikely yet heartfelt pairing, and are a delight to watch onscreen.

This season of the show adapts the first story in the Dunk and Egg series. To date, Martin has published three stories of their exploits (you can buy the book here). Presumably, the second and third stories will be the basis for upcoming seasons of the show. Martin reportedly has outlines for 12 more stories for the duo, giving the show plenty of fodder, should HBO execs green-light additional seasons — though presumably they’ll have to deal with Dexter Sol Ansell (who plays Egg) growing up as the years pass.

More New and Upcoming 4K and Blu-ray Releases

In any case, if you liked A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and want to put the first season on your shelf, now’s your chance. And despite its lower run-time than your standard Game of Thrones season, the asking price of $34.98 sounds totally reasonable to me.
