Deadpool & Wolverine star Emma Corrin has admitted to feeling "so bad" about killing off a beloved character in the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.
The superhero blockbuster is chock full of cameos, with Captain America star Chris Evans even showing up as Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, from his original Marvel film appearance Fantastic Four.
His appearance was sadly cut short by Corrin's villainous Cassandra Nova though. The actor told GQ they felt "terrible" about delivering the fatal blow, especially when they had to watch it back.
"I felt so bad when we were in the screening the other day," Corrin admitted. "Because we watched it after the New York premiere [at the] Lincoln Center full of fans, and everyone was so excited when they see him appear on screen.
"And then after three minutes, I've killed him. I felt terrible. I was hiding in my seat. Yeah, it was weird. Not something I thought I'd be doing if you'd asked me a few years ago."
Evans joined several other actors making Fox movie cameos in the film, such as Jennifer Garner's Elektra and Wesley Snipes' Blade. Channing Tatum appeared as Gambit too, a role he previously got cast in but never actually got to play until now.
"That's something [Marvel] do so well, the cameos," Corrin said. "You know, they give the people what they want. They give them cameos. But they also don't use them gratuitously. They're all there for a reason. And I think you really sense that. Or, I hope people sense that because I think they're used really cleverly."
While Corrin feels terrible about offing a fan-favorite, Evans holds no grudges himself. He recently took to his Instagram story to extend his gratitude to Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy and the movie's titular stars, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, for allowing him to reprise his Fantastic Four character.
"Thank you to Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy for letting me be a part of such an incredible movie," Evans wrote. "They're three of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Special thank you to Ryan for making it all happen. Playing Johnny again was a dream come true and he'll always have a special place in my heart."
Deadpool & Wolverine premiered on July 26, 2024 to the largest R-rated global box office opening ever, but the film proved divisive with critics. IGN called the latest MCU entry "an outrageous, consistently funny superhero comedy that succeeds largely thanks to the contagious enthusiasm of leads Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman."
