Zack Snyder's Twilight of the Gods Lands September Release Date in First Bloody Trailer

Netflix has released a trailer for Zack Snyder's new animated series, Twilight of the Gods, revealing a release date of September 19, 2024.

The Watchmen, Army of the Dead, and Rebel Moon director is one of the major creative forces behind the previously announced Norse mythology-based series. Now, however, we finally know the show's release date along with a better glimpse at how it looks in motion. The trailer for the series, released today, doesn't delve too deeply into Twilight of the Gods' plot, but it does show off some very cool (and bloody) Viking action in an art style that feels reminiscent of Samurai Jack.

The series follows Leif, a mortal king saved from death by an iron-willed warrior named Sigrid. On their wedding night, they're attacked by Thor, which sets the two lovers - and a ragtag crew of crusaders - on a mission for vengeance that will take them across the battlefields of Norse myth, and even into hell itself.

The series is animated by French studio Xilam Animation, which is best known for Chip and Dale: Park Life on Disney+. Its cast includes John Noble as Odin, Paterson Joseph as Loki, Rahul Kohli as Egill, Peter Stormare as Ulfr, and Game of Thrones’ Kristofer Hivju as Andvari, to name a few.

In addition to Snyder, the series was co-created by DC animation alum Jay Oliva and Foundation's Eric Carrasco. Snyder will direct the first and last episodes, with Oliva, Andrew Tamandl (Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous), Tim Divar (Batman: The Killing Joke), and Dave Hartman (Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire) rounding out the slate of additional directors announced so far.

It's been a busy year for Snyder, who is currently working on Rebel Moon director's cuts, again with Netflix. Snyder also recently explained his theory behind the Knightmare sequence from Justice League and has expressed interest in directing a Gears of War movie.
