Regular Show and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends Spinoffs on the Way From Original Creators

Several classic Cartoon Network shows are returning. Variety reports today that Warner Bros. Discovery has greenlit two new spinoff shows, one based on Regular Show and the other on Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, with the original creators returning to spearhead the projects.

The Regular Show project has yet to receive an official title, with minimal details. What we do know is that Regular Show creator J.G. Quintel is returning for the new series and that it will feature some characters from the original series. Regular Show premiered in 2010 and concluded in 2017, spanning eight seasons. The original series focused on two best friends, Mordecai and Rigby, who work as groundskeepers at a park, though it's unclear if they are among the list of returning characters.

The new Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends show, titled Foster's Funtime for Imaginary Friends, is a new series that will target a preschool demographic. The series will focus on preschool imaginary friends learning lessons from Bloo, one of the original series' main characters. Variety notes that Foster's Home for Imagniary Friends' creator Craig McCracken will return for the project, with McCracken promising that this new show will have "less cynical humor."

Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends premiered in 2004 and ran for six seasons. The series focused on Mac and his imaginary friend Bloo and their adventures, primarily set in a house dedicated to abandoned imaginary friends.

Both series, along with a handful of others, helped catapault Cartoon Network into becoming one of the more popular destinations to catch cartoons on cable TV. In addition to these new shows, WB Discovery confirmed the Cartoon Network series Adventure Time is getting three new projects: one movie and two additional spinoff TV shows.
