One Piece Season 2 Reportedly Set for 2025 Premiere on Netflix as Percy Jackson Exec Joins Crew

One Piece Season 2 is reportedly set for a 2025 premiere after Netflix added Percy Jackson and the Olympians co-executive producer Joe Tracz as co-showrunner.

As reported by Deadline, Tracz will also write and executive produce the upcoming season alongside Matt Owens, while Season 1 co-showrunner Steve Maeda will step back into just an executive producer role. Sources told Deadline that filming will begin in June for a 2025 premiere.

Tracz most recently worked on the Percy Jackson series for Disney+ but was also writer-producer on fellow adaptation A Series of Unfortunate Events for Netflix. "I’ve been lucky to work on big adaptations of several beloved series, and they don’t come bigger or more beloved than One Piece,” Tracz said of his new role.

It’s a dream and a joy to come aboard the Going Merry as it enters the Grand Line for an even more giant Season 2.

“I’m a huge fan of [original creator Eiichiro Oda’s] incredible imagination and I was blown away by what the live action team created in Season 1. So it’s a dream and a joy to come aboard the Going Merry as it enters the Grand Line for an even more giant Season 2."

Owens added: "Joe has brought a wealth of enthusiasm and experience into our second season that will help take One Piece to new heights. We’re incredibly lucky to have him as a co-captain of this ship. The best crew on the seas grows larger."

The first season debuted August 31, 2023 as an eight-episode adaptation of the beloved manga, which began in 1997 and is still going strong. Netflix quickly renewed One Piece for Season 2 and Marty Adelstein, CEO of production company Tomorrow Studios, said it can be ready within 18 months of the actors' strike ending. This happened in November 2023, which also makes a 2025 premiere likely.

Season 2 will presumably take protagonist Luffy and his Straw Hat crew into Alabasta and the second manga arc, where the loveable pirates are forced to overcome the mysterious Baroque Works organization alongside its evil leader Mr Zero.

Fans are already debating which actors should take on some of the new characters, but Jamie Lee Curtis is all but confirmed to take the part of one wacky doctor. Danny Devito is another popular fan casting, but the biggest question remains around how Netflix will bring a 90cm tall human/reindeer hybrid called Tony Tony Chopper to live action.
