HBO's The Last of Us has added four new names to its directing roster for Season 2, including Loki helmer Kate Herron and Succession Emmy-winner Mark Mylod.
As reported by Variety, The Last of Us team has enlisted Herron, the showrunner and lead director of Loki's first season, and Mylod, who won an Emmy for his work on Succession, to helm upcoming episodes of the post-apocalyptic drama along with Watchmen's Stephen Williams and Perry Mason's Nina Lopez-Corrado.
The quartet join returning directors Peter Hoar, who earned an Emmy nomination for his critically acclaimed first season episode "Long, Long Time," as well as The Last of Us creators, executive producers and showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, who respectively helmed the first and second episodes last time.
The sophomore season of The Last of Us is starting to take shape following a slew of recent casting announcements, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Young Mazino as Jesse, and Isabela Merced as Dina. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will reprise their roles, but Bill and Frank will not be back in flashbacks or otherwise.
Season 2 will presumably follow the storyline of The Last of Us Part II video game but with additional content from the Lost Levels and a few "radically different" moments. Mazin has already indicated that it will take "more than a season's worth of television," implying they will split the sequel into two or more seasons.
There is not much other news on The Last of Us Season 2 yet, though it does have a 2025 release window. The first season, of course, was a hit and one of IGN's favorite shows of 2023, with our 9/10 review calling it "a stunning adaptation that should thrill newcomers and enrich those already familiar with Joel and Ellie's journey."
