The Lord of the Rings and Marvel actor Ian McKellen has no plans to retire, saying he wants to keep going as long as his body and mind allow it.
Perhaps most famous for his role as Gandalf in both The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit trilogy, but also known for playing Magneto in the X-Men films among other roles, the 84-year-old was asked by Variety if he has any plans to retire.
"Retire to do what?," McKellen said. "I’ve never been out of work, but I’m aware that any minute now something could happen to me which could prevent me from ever working again. But while the knees hold up and the memory remains intact, why shouldn’t I carry on? I really feel I’m quite good at this acting thing now."
This will perhaps give Lord of the Rings fans some hope McKellen will return to Middle-earth one day, especially as the franchise's new owner Embracer plans to be "exploiting Lord of the Rings in a very significant fashion".
While video games are also on the horizon, Warner Bros. Discovery in partnership with Embracer has already said "multiple" Lord of the Rings films are being developed. Gandalf was even brought up as one potential star of a spin-off.
