Ahsoka Episode 5 Brings a Beloved Clone Wars Character to Live-Action

Warning: The below contains full spoilers for Ahsoka Episode 5, which is now streaming on Disney+.

Ahsoka Episode 5 featured an exciting cameo for fans of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, as a beloved character from the animated series made their live-action debut in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment.

Final spoiler warning! The fifth chapter of the Disney+ Star Wars series returned to the World Between Worlds, where viewers witnessed flashbacks involving Ahsoka Tano and her former master, Anakin Skywalker. One unfolded at the Siege of Mandalore and saw a familiar character making a surprise appearance.

Amid all the chaos, fans caught sight of Captain Rex, the veteran clone trooper (designation number CT-7567) who served the Republic during the Clone Wars and often took orders from Anakin and Ahsoka. In the scene, Rex briefly interacts with Ahsoka as he tells her: "Nice work, commander. We'll secure the perimeter."

Fans will recognise the voice as none other than Temuera Morrison, an actor who has been a part of the Star Wars universe for over 20 years, spanning back to his debut in Episode II – Attack of the Clones, playing the bounty hunter Jango Fett, and, more recently, portraying Boba Fett in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.

Captain Rex was a main character in the animated 2008 movie Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the television series of the same name. The character also appeared in Star Wars Rebels, The Bad Batch, and Tales of the Jedi, but this is the first time fans have seen him in live-action, making it a standout moment for those watching closely.

IGN scored Ahsoka Episode 5, "Shadow Warrior", 9/10, praising Dave Filoni for "recapturing the character dynamics that made his animated shows so emotionally powerful" while also taking audiences back to Ahsoka Tano's origins in a way that taps into the "nostalgia for Star Wars: The Clone Wars to strong effect".
