It Has Begun: Speedrunner Beats Tears of the Kingdom in 94 Minutes

It's The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's launch day, and while many players are sitting back, relaxing, and ready to enjoy the dozens of hours of gameplay ahead of them, speedunners are instead looking for ways to break the game.

As reported by VGC, the time trials have officially begun. Zelda speedrunner gymnast86 has already published a video of himself beating Tears of the Kingdom in 94 minutes. Viewer beware, the video naturally contains the biggest of spoilers, but can be viewed over on gymnast86's YouTube channel for those interested.

Coming in at exactly one hour, 34 minutes and 33 seconds, the speedrun is for the "any percentage" category (meaning players don't have to find every Korok seed, for example), and also without the assistance of Amiibo.

With tons of new tools to mix, match, and combine objects in Tears of the Kingdom, speedrunners were plotting ways to break the game way before it launched. Since that was only today, of course, the current record of 94 minutes is likely to be broken again and again, though only time will tell what the final result becomes.

Tears of the Kingdom's predecessor, Breath of the Wild, has a speedrun record of 23 minutes and 51 seconds, though this was recorded just a few months ago and could therefore still be tightened up more and more. One player even beat the game 50 times in a single day around the same time.

Eiji Aonuma recommends players slow down a little in Tears of the Kingdom, however, to take in everything the new version of Hyrule has to offer.

In our 10/10 review of the game, IGN said: "The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is an unfathomable follow-up, expanding a world that already felt full beyond expectation and raising the bar ever higher into the clouds."

We also have you covered with a full walkthrough of Tears of the Kingdom, the best things to do first, a guide on what the game doesn't (but maybe should) tell you, and handy explainers on how to import your Breath of the Wild horses, how to unlock the full map, and so much more.
