After seven weeks atop the domestic weekend box office, Knock at the Cabin and 80 for Brady have both dethroned Avatar: The Way of Water and knocked it down to third place.
As reported by Variety, M. Night Shyamalan's latest horror film, Knock at the Cabin, won the weekend with $14.2 million and held off 80 for Brady and its $12.6 million haul.
Despite its victory, Knock at the Cabin was actually Shyamalan's lowest opening weekend performance and it took that unfortunate record from Old's $16.8 million in 2021. The film did well over the following weeks, however, and ended with $48 million domestically and $90 million globally.
Knock at the Cabin added another $7 million overseas, and its worldwide total has reached $41.2 million. The film only cost $20 million to make, so it should still recoup its costs with ease.
In our Knock at the Cabin review, we said that it "is an apocalypse movie that doesn’t feel all that apocalyptic, despite the efforts of a heavyweight Dave Bautista performance."
80 for Brady, which sees best friends traveling together to the Super Bowl to watch their hero, Tom Brady, cost $28 million to produce and may have had a boost in ticket sales as its release coincided with Brady's NFL retirement announcement.
In our 80 for Brady review, we said that it "is a surprisingly sweet and sentimental comedy led by four stellar performances — especially by Lily Tomlin, who’s never been more radiant."
Avatar: The Way of Water still performed admirably in its eighth weekend in theaters with $10.8 million domestically, which was just a 32% drop from last weekend. The Avatar sequel has earned $636 million in North America and $2.174 billion globally. It stands tall as the fourth highest-grossing film of all time.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish took fourth place with $7.9 million and BTS: Yet to Come in Cinemas rounded out the top five with $5.1 million.
