James Cameron: Avatar 3 Will Feature Fire Na'vi

James Cameron's Avatar and Avatar: The Last Airbender may have more than a name in common, as The Way of Water's sequel will seemingly feature an aggressive nation of fire Na'vi that upset the balance of the universe.

Speaking to French outlet 20 Minutes (and spotted by Games Radar), Cameron explained that Avatar 3 will feature what he calls "Ash People" who will be a darker take on the Na'vi presented so far.

The next films will feature "cultures different from those I have already shown," he said. "The fire will be represented by the Ash People. I want to reveal the Na'vi from another angle because, at the moment, I have only shown their good sides."

Cameron continued: "In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na'vi examples. In Avatar 3, we'll do the reverse. We will also explore new universes while continuing the story of the main characters.

"I can say that the last parts will be the best. The others were an introduction, a way to set the table before serving the meal. But, obviously, everything will depend on how Avatar 2 will be received, if it will find its audience."

Avatar: The Way of Water certainly has found its audience, having made $1 billion in just two weeks. It's therefore likely a third film is on the way, meaning fans will get to see how everything changes when the fire nation attacks.

Cameron has already shot scenes from Avatar 3 and 4, to ensure what he called the "Stranger Things effect" doesn't happen and the younger actors don't age years between films.

In our 8/10 review of the latest, IGN said: "Avatar: The Way of Water is a clear improvement on its predecessor and, though its story isn’t breaking new ground, its jaw-dropping visuals make this an irresistible return to Pandora."
