Community Movie Begins Filming in June, Joel McHale Reveals

Joel McHale has confirmed the Community movie will start filming in June, with most of the original cast returning for the sequel.

During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, McHale gave fans an exciting update about the highly anticipated Community movie. The comedian dropped into the show to discuss his new series Animal Control, but the conversation briefly veered on to the subject of the fan-favorite Greendale group and when they would be reuniting.

"We're making the Community movie in June, so... Thanks for remembering," he joked after Kimmel asked him about the project.

McHale also reiterated that Ken Jeong would be reprising his role alongside original stars Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, and Jim Rash. Yvette Nicole Brown and Donald Glover have not yet been confirmed as part of the cast – and Chevy Chase is extremely unlikely to return after a very public falling out over the show.

The long-awaited movie sequel was officially announced in September after years of campaigning from fans of the original series who were desperate to see the "six seasons and a movie" prophecy fulfilled. Community creator Dan Harmon moved things along in August when he finally pitched an idea for a follow-up film.

Harmon is attached to the project as an executive producer together with McHale, Andrew Guest, Russ Krasnoff, and Gary Foster. Harmon also penned the script for the upcoming movie, which is believed to be a bit of a tearjerker as McHale warned fans that he "cried like a baby" after the first table read.

Along with the movie, Peacock has also secured non-competitive rights to air Community Season Six, giving prospective viewers a chance to jump back in with the meta-riffic comedy series before the film debuts.
