Shadow and Bone Season 2 Premieres in March

Netflix fantasy series Shadow and Bone will be back on March 16 for its second season.

After Shadow and Bone was renewed back in June, Netflix has finally revealed that Season 2 is just a few months and also shared some images from the upcoming episodes on Twitter (below).

“The most wonderful thing about Season 2 is that we get to advance the story of these characters that we’d left in precarious positions at the end of Season 1,” said co-showrunner Eric Heisserer in an interview with Tudum.

“There’s a lot of potential for them this season. They have to face the consequences for their actions, and then they get to meet new people along the way. The Grishaverse also expands in this season, both in mythology and in characters.”

Shadow and Bone is based on the bestselling Grishaverse novels by Leigh Bardugo. The show’s first season focussed on Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li), a mapmaker with the power to summon sunlight who was sent to train with fellow magic-based users, Grishas, to learn how to control her power. The Grishas are led by the mysterious General Kirigan (Ben Barnes), who has the power to summon the darkness.

“We’ve also really dug into more of the mythology this season in terms of the amplifiers, but also the creator of the amplifiers, Morozova — who he was, what his backstory is and how he ties into this world,” said co-showrunner Daegan Fryklind.

But with Alina and her childhood friend Mal (Archie Renaux) in hiding by the end of the season, there are some new faces coming our way in Season 2. We also got our first look at Season 2 just a couple of months ago with the show’s latest teaser trailer.

IGN’s review of Shadow and Bone Season 1 gave it 8/10 and said: “Netflix maintains its great track record of adapting fantasy action books to screen with Shadow and Bone, a fun, action-packed series based on Leigh Bardugo’s best-selling Grishaverse books. The first season manages to capture much of the darker magic of young-adult fantasy while being unafraid to make smart changes to certain characters’ origin stories and even the sequence of events—even if the storylines from the two series of books don’t always easily mesh.”
