Elon Musk Says Twitter Users Can Decide if He Steps Down, and They Said He Should

Elon Musk ran a poll asking Twitter users if he should step down as CEO and said he would respect its results - and the majority said he should.

The poll was posted from Musk's own Twitter account on December 18 (below), with the controversial CEO saying he would "abide by the results". More than 17.5 million Twitter users answered the poll, with 57.5% saying he should step down.

Whether Musk does abide by the results of the poll is currently unclear as he hasn't yet announced or tweeted anything in response to its closing. The CEO has previously tweeted about several supposed changes to Twitter that never came to be, however, so only time will tell if he honours this claim or not.

The most famous example of this is perhaps Musk's purchasing of Twitter in the first place which, after tweeting about it several times, he tried to back out of completely. Only once Twitter sued Musk for trying to cancel the deal did he agree to purchase it for $44 million.

This poll isn't the first indication from Musk that he might step down as CEO of Twitter either, as in November he said he planned to reduce his time as boss and find someone else to run the social media giant instead.
