Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has held off David Harbour's Violent Night to secure its fourth weekend box office victory.
As reported by Variety, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever brought in $17.6 million in North America to bring its domestic total to $393.7 million. Globally, the latest MCU film that honored the late Chadwick Boseman has reached $733 million.
Violent Night, which was the only new big release in North America, slightly exceeded expectations and earned $13.3 million on its way to a second place finish. Internationally, Violent Night added another $7.05 million, which helped its global total for the weekend reach $20.35 million.
Violent Night only cost $20 million to produce, so it's well on its way to recouping its cost and making a profit.
In our Violent Night review, we said that it "brings the Christmas spirit to a gore-first action flick that delivers what’s advertised thanks to a top-form David Harbour."
Strange World placed third with $4.9 million, which was a 60% drop from its disappointing $12 million debut. The latest Disney animated film has brought in $25.5 million domestically and $42.3 million globally, which is a long way from its $200 million production budget.
The Menu and Devotion rounded out the top five, earning $3.6 million and $2.8 million, respectively.
