Euphoria Is Officially Over With Season 3 Finale

Euphoria has officially ended with the Season 3 finale, its creator has announced.

Speaking to the New York Times (paywall), Euphoria creator Sam Levinson confirmed Season 3, Episode 8, titled In God We Trust, isn’t just the season finale, but the series finale. "In terms of the story that we set out to tell, which is a story about addiction and its consequences, this feels like the end to me," Levinson said.

The hugely popular teen drama starring Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, and Hunter Schafer, began life seven years ago and became an instant hit for HBO. Season 2 followed in January 2022. But there was a four year gap between the end of Season 2 and the start of Season 3, and in the meantime many of its cast have become Hollywood superstars in their own right, starring in blockbuster films that have demanded much of their time.

And so the expectation was that Euphoria would come to an end with this latest season. Indeed, Zendaya had indicated in an interview that she believed Season 3 would be the last.

“It’s for the best and I feel like we already knew this was going to happen,” one fan said. “I can’t imagine if it got another season.” “Yeah I dunno why anyone would think Season 4 was ever gonna be a thing when Zendaya said this season concludes Euphoria,” another added. “It wasn’t a perfect show or anything but damn it will be a foundational text for Gen Z and thank you to Zendaya for pulling off such a role,” a fan said.

In March, Zendaya, who has become one of Hollywood’s most popular and most bankable actresses, said she was thinking about reducing the number of projects she takes on out of fear fans and audiences are getting “sick” of her.

“I guess, you know, I just hope people don’t get sick of me,” she revealed in an interview with Fandango. “And I really appreciate everyone who supports any of the movies or supports my career in any kind of way. I’m deeply appreciative, and like I said, I just hope you guys don’t get sick of me this year. Because I’ll tell you what, after this I’m disappearing for a little bit. I’m going to have to go into hiding for just a little bit.”

Zendaya has a long list of projects still to come out this year, including Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic The Odyssey in July and the next installment in the Tom Holland Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day later that month. She closes out the year with the highly anticipated Dune Part 3 in December.

As for Sydney Sweeney, she’s got The Housemaid's Secret and the live-action Gundam movie in the works, among many others.
