Jeff Goldblum Says Robert Downey Jr. Marvel Return Is 'Excellent,' Is Jealous of Victor Von Doom's Name

Thor Ragnarok star Jeff Goldblum has said Robert Downey Jr's return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday is "excellent," and that he's very jealous of the baddy's name.

Goldblum said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he'd heard "whispers" about Downey Jr's return before spinning into another chain of thought about how much he likes the name Victor von Doom.

If my name had been Victor von Doom, I'd be a lot further along than I am now.

"Excellent news," Goldblum said, seemingly hearing of the casting for the first time. "I think I'd vaguely heard the... Yes, yes, I'd heard whispers on my peripheral channels. Victor von Doom? I like that name. If my name had been Victor von Doom, I'd be a lot further along than I am now. That's a great name. Add Von to anything. Or Van."

He didn't clarify whether he planned to change his name to Jeff von Goldblum but was certainly enamoured with the Marvel villain, who will make his MCU debut in Avengers: Doomsday.

Marvel finally announced the casting of Doctor Doom after moving away from the Kang the Conqueror storyline when actor Jonathan Majors was found guilty of assault and harassment. Doctor Doom will therefore be the next big MCU villain and fans were shocked to see Iron Man actor Downey Jr. cast in the role.

The MCU version of Doctor Doom will therefore likely be a variant of Iron Man who turned a tad evil, though it's still not clear exactly how Marvel will blend the two together.

Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter. He'll talk about The Witcher all day.
