The Season 2 finale of Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon has leaked across social media.
Scenes from the final episode of the season, due to air on Sunday, August 4, appeared on TikTok before the account was banned, but not before those clips made their way onto X/Twitter, where at the time of this article’s publication, they remain.
Variety reported that the TikTok account in question posted 14 videos, each around 30 minutes long, from the Season 2 finale, and that before the account was banned the videos had hundreds of thousands of views each.
HBO is now faced with an uphill struggle to contain the leak, and fans are having to mute hashtags and keywords on social media in an effort to avoid spoilers. But HBO and Game of Thrones fans have been here before. The House of the Dragon Season 1 finale leaked online two days before it was set to air officially in October 2022. Back then, HBO said the finale leak originated from one of its distribution partners in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region (EMEA).
"We are aware that the tenth episode of House of the Dragon has been posted on illegal torrent sites," HBO said in a statement issued at the time. "It appears to have originated from a distribution partner in the EMEA region. HBO is aggressively monitoring and pulling these copies from the internet. We’re disappointed that this unlawful action has disrupted the viewing experience for loyal fans of the show, who will get to see a pristine version of the episode when it premieres Sunday on HBO and HBO Max, where it will stream exclusively in 4K."
And HBO’s seminal Game of Throne series had a history of leaks, with multiple episodes appearing online before they were officially aired.
