DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has said Peacemaker Season 2 "essentially picks up" just after the events of Season 1.
While this might seam obvious for any other TV show, Peacemaker exists on either side of a shift in universes. Season 1 takes place in the now defunct DC Extended Universe (headlined by Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel) while Season 2 takes place in Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran's refreshed DCU, which kicks off with animated series Creature Commandos in December 2024 and Superman on July 11, 2025.
A fan on Threads asked how this shift in canon would affect the show. "It essentially picks up where Season 1 left off," Gunn said. "With a couple minor differences."
Gunn has also said previously that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though it remains unclear what will and won't make the jump from DCEU to DCU. He has confirmed all of Team Peacemaker will return with the same actors, meaning John Cena in the leading role will be joined by the likes of Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.
It's also perhaps likely the continuation won't be called Peacemaker Season 2 but instead have a subtitle. This would be similar to how Disney is continuing the original Daredevil series from Netflix with Daredevil: Born Again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Peacemaker Season 2 has already begun filming but no release date has been revealed by Gunn yet. And though it wasn't announced as part of the original 10 projects in the DCU's Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, it will almost certainly arrive ahead of some that were, likely as the third or fourth release.
Gunn has also said the show will canonically take place after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the events of the latter even affecting Peacemaker.
