The Acolyte Introduces a New Droid, and Star Wars Fans Are Already Obsessed

Warning: Spoilers follow for the first two episodes of The Acolyte.

The first two episodes of The Acolyte introduced a host of new faces, but one little character has already stolen the hearts of Star Wars fans everywhere.

Pip, the pocket-sized pal of Osha (Amandla Stenberg), is described in the Star Wars Databank as a "repair droid with a wide array of tool attachments" with "a chipper, can-do personality." And, as shown in the show's two-part premiere, it is "always eager to help, often suggesting just the right tool for the task at hand."

Star Wars' newest droid became an instant fan-favorite from the first moment it chirped into action in Episode 1, Lost / Found, with viewers taking to X/Twitter to profess their love for the nifty sidekick. A few people were also willing to part with their credits to get their hands on their very own Pip personal assistant.

Pip garnered some attention on Reddit, too, where people were particularly impressed by just how handy the right-hand droid proved to be in the opening episodes. One person referred to the gadget as a "Swiss army droid," while another added: "I love how he can disassemble into a bunch of hand tools! He IS flexible!"

From C-3PO and R2-D2 to the likes of BB-8 and Huyang, droids have long been littered across the Star Wars galaxy (video games included), acting as serviceable companions and often providing some comedic relief, whether they're fulfilling the role of assassin, security guard, builder, co-pilot, or any other duty.

With six more episodes of The Acolyte remaining, it is safe to say Pip will pop up in the Disney+ Star Wars series again. There are also likely to be many more twists and turns in the wake of the premiere, considering it dropped a surprising reveal that somehow managed to be kept under wraps until the show debuted.

IGN has a spoiler-free review of the premiere, plus a full-blown critical analysis with a 6/10 rating. "The first two episodes of The Acolyte make an exciting live-action introduction to The High Republic, but they don't quite capture the vibe of classic Star Wars," it notes, adding that it sometimes feels "tonally and visually off."
