Daniel Brühl is confident he will return as Baron Zemo in the MCU again despite not being a confirmed part of Thunderbolts* or any other Phase 5 project up to now.
Brühl made his MCU debut as Zemo in Captain America: Civil War before returning for the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, wearing a comics-accurate mask. He has not appeared in any projects since, nor has he appeared on cast lists for future titles on the MCU slate, but he is certain he will be back at some point.
"It's fine for me, I can wait. [Laughs] I'm a very patient man," Brühl told Screen Rant when asked about reprising Zemo. "It's funny because, in the meantime, I just wrapped on a show that's called The Franchise, where it's actually a satire about the superhero universe, so it was fun to switch sides, so to say. But knowing Marvel, they have a lot of sense of humor, so they will probably find it as funny as I did. And who knows, I mean, I'm still not dead. I'm very confident that I'll be back."
Brühl's absence from the cast of Thunderbolts* is perhaps one of the more head-scratching omissions because, in the comics, Zemo is the original leader and most essential member of the signature team, so many thought he would be spearheading the line-up of would-be heroes in the live-action MCU feature next year.
It does, however, sound like there is a fair chance that we will see him again, just not yet, as Deadpool & Wolverine is the next movie for Marvel (and the only one for 2024). It is already confirmed to have numerous cameos, including a possible appearance from Doctor Doom, expanding the MCU character roster further.
