David Lynch has returned to social media with a cryptic video teasing an announcement on June 5.
The filmmaker behind such movies as Mulholland Drive and Blue Velvet, as well as the cult classic TV show Twin Peaks, took to X/Twitter for the first time since December 2022 to post a video. He appeared in dark sunglasses to deliver a short message to his followers, letting them know about an impending announcement.
"Ladies and gentlemen, something is coming along…. for you to see and hear," Lynch revealed. "And it will be coming along on June 5."

The mysterious message triggered excitement among fans, with some sharing Twin Peaks memes and GIFs in the comments section while others eagerly anticipated the news. "Praying it is a new show or a new movie announcement, please lord," one person wrote, as another added: "June 5th can't come soon enough."
In recent years, Lynch has directed numerous shorts and posted frequent weather reports on his YouTube channel, but his last major TV project was Twin Peaks: The Return, which premiered on Showtime in 2017. Rumors have circulated since then about what Lynch might be working on, but no concrete news has surfaced as yet.
This past April, however, Lynch told Deadline he was seeking backers for his animated project, Snootworld, after working on the script for two years with former Tim Burton collaborator Caroline Thompson. He revealed Netflix had rejected his pitch for the "old fashioned fairytale," but he was still looking for financiers.
Back in 2020, reports suggested Lynch was developing a project with the working title Wisteria, which later became Unrecorded Night (as listed on his IMDb page). According to IndieWire, the project appeared in issue 1222 of Production Weekly, with his longtime collaborator Sabrina S. Sutherland attached as a producer.
"Unrecorded Night was a non-Twin Peaks series that was going to shoot at Netflix but was canceled when the pandemic hit," Sutherland said during an online Q&A in May this year. "There's always a chance we can pick it up again, but David has been enjoying his artwork and music endeavors, so we haven't gone back to it."
Lynch has not directed a feature-length film since 2006's Inland Empire, so fans are understandably keen to see what he has up his sleeve.
