David Corenswet may be the new face of DC after landing the lead role in James Gunn's Superman but he actually auditioned for a major Marvel Cinematic Universe role first.
Revealed in a Threads post by DC Studios co-CEO and Superman director Gunn, who also led the MCU's Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, Corenswet auditioned for the role of the genetically engineered (and very shiny) alien Adam Warlock, who was ultimately portrayed by Will Poulter in the final film.
Corenswet was seemingly a much better fit for the role of Superman, however, as Gunn admitted he didn't even remember his audition for Adam Warlock.
"I asked him about [his audition] and he said he did so I believe him, but I don’t remember it," Gunn said in response to a fan who also asked if similar flying effects would make it into Superman. "And no, what we’re doing now for flying is much more complex than what was done for Adam Warlock."
Superman, previously Superman: Legacy will stick to its July 11, 2025 release date despite the writer and actor strikes which brought Hollywood to a standstill in 2023. It will tell the story of a young Superman as he looks to balance his Kryptonian and Kansan heritage, though Gunn has assured it definitely won't be an origin story.
Lots of other DC characters will appear in the film, such as Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan will play Metamorpho, and MarÃa Gabriela as The Engineer. Gunn confirmed these actors would play the roles in other DCU projects too.
