Dune 2 Announced IMAX Run Extension With Cute Solar Eclipse-Themed Poster

If you have yet to see Dune: Part 2 in theatres and want to watch it in the best format possible, Warner Bros. Discovery announced today that it is extending the film's run in IMAX and IMAX 70mm.

Announced on the official Dune X/Twitter account, WB. Discovery revealed that tickets for the 70mm IMAX showings are available now, with IMAX tickets becoming available next Monday, April 15. The announcement also coincides with today's solar eclipse, with the film's distributor posting a new marketing poster featuring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya sporting some solar eclipse-friendly glasses in a separate tweet.

It's been over a month since Dune: Part 2 hit theatres, and it was a huge success for Warner Bros. Discovery. A few weeks after it kicked off its theatrical run, it was reported that at the time, it surpassed $500 million at the Global Box Office; a more recent number from IMDb reports that the film grossed over $600 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of this year.

With the success of Dune: Part 2 and Wonka, two films distributed by WB and starring Chalamet in the lead role, the studio recently doubled down on its working relationship with the actor as last month it was reported both parties inked a multi-year first-look deal.

The announcement comes less than a week after Deadline reported that a sequel based on the book Dune: Messiah is currently in development. While the sequel was all but confirmed, we learned earlier this year that Dune: Part 2 director Denis Villeneuve was working on a script for a third film prior to the second film's release. The next film, based on Frank Herbert's 1969 book Dune Messiah, is expected to serve as a conclusion to Villeneuve's previous two films.

In our review of Dune: Part 2, my colleague Tom Jorgensen wrote: "Featuring absolutely staggering visuals, Dune: Part Two is an arresting, transportive middle entry in Denis Villeneuve's tricky sci-fi saga."
