The Lost Boys Is Being Turned Into A Musical

Cult horror-comedy The Lost Boys is being turned into a musical.

The original 1987 vampire flick starred Kiefer Sutherland alongside Corey Feldman, Corey Haim, and Jason Patric. It’s now being adapted into a stage musical by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia writer David Hornsby, director Michael Arden, and pop band The Rescues.

There’s currently no indication who will star in the stage production, or when production will get underway. But we do know Patrick Wilson of Insidious and The Conjuring fame will produce the musical along with James Carpinello, and Marcus Chait.

Of course, director Michael Arden is no stranger to musicals, having won the 2023 Tony Award for Best Direction/Musical with his hit Broadway musical, Parade. Hornsby will write the musical along with Chris Hoch, who has previously starred in Shrek the Musical, A Christmas Carol, and Matilda.

Ethan Popp is on board as musical director with music from The Rescues – an indie pop-rock band that has seen its music used in The Umbrella Academy, and Pretty Little Liars.

Even Patrick Wilson himself is no stranger to Broadway, with Tony nominations for his roles in The Full Monty and Oklahoma!

The original film The Lost Boys was directed by Joel Schumacher and has been credited for shifting vampire movies away from their gothic horror-steeped roots towards the sexier vampire genre we know today. The film earned $32.2 million at the box office, on a budget of $8.5 million.

IGN’s The Lost Boys review gave it 7/10 and said: “The film follows Michael's descent into vampirism, and is anything but subtle, with visuals, camerawork, and performances right out of a hair metal rock opera. It was probably never meant to be played serious, but The Lost Boys has become outright farce and can now be put on the same mantle as one of the better horror comedies out there.”
