Participants of Netflix's Squid Game: The Challenge reality show are threatening to sue the show's production company Studio Lambert over injuries suffered during the competition.
As reported by THR, the British personal injury firm Express Solicitors shared the news of the potential lawsuit that would aim to compensate those who allegedly had a rough time during the filming of Squid Game: The Challenge back in January 2023.
“We have sent letters of claim on behalf of contestants injured in this show,” CEO Daniel Slade said in a statement. “From what we’ve been told, they pushed the boundaries of safety in the name of entertainment. Production companies need to ensure that health and safety standards on their shows don’t leave people at risk of harm."
The firm added that these participants "suffered injuries such as hypothermia and nerve damage as a result of poor health and safety standards on set."
Anonymous participants previously spoke to The Sun about their time on the show, and they shared that the first episode's "Red Light, Green Light" game took hours to film during freezing winter conditions that saw temperatures drop to 27 degrees Farenheit.
"It was like a warzone," a participant of the show said. "People were getting carried out by medics, but we couldn't say anything. If you talk, then you're out."
As previously mentioned, no lawsuit has been filed yet, but the initial steps are being taken. As of this writing, the firm is representing two participants and is in communication with others.
Squid Game: The Challenge is obviously based on Netflix's Squid Game, but this time its a reality show that sees 456 player competing for a reward of $4.56 million. To get that prize, they must complete games, tasks and survive a complex web of social situations.
In our Squid Game: The Challenge review, we said it is "a shallow and at times, gross reality show that somehow still manages to be entertaining."
