Spoiler Warning: The following article contains spoilers for The Marvels.
X-Men star Kelsey Grammer says he’s “confident” he’ll play Beast again.
During an interview with The Wrap, the iconic Frasier star said he thinks he’ll be back as everyone’s favourite big blue mutant.
“It is my hope that you will [see him again],” he said. “I can say with a certain amount of confidence that you will. I would love to.”
Grammer last appeared as The Beast (aka Hank McCoy) in the 2013 comic book movie, X-Men: Days of Future Past. However, he also recently made a brief, mid-credits appearance in The Marvels.
After the villainous Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton) opens up an Incursion where two realities collide, the eponymous superheroes set about fixing it. Inevitably, this leaves one of them trapped on the other side: Monica Rambeau (aka Spectrum) played by Teyonah Parris. Although it seems we may have seen the last of her as the film draws to a close, the mid-credits scene reveals what’s awaiting her on the other side.
Waking up in some sort of medical facility, Spectrum is tended by Kelsey Grammer’s Beast. That’s right — she’s in the same universe as the X-Men. Which universe it turns out to be, remains to be seen.
However, it certainly opens up more possibilities for Grammer to return to his iconic X-Men role. Grammer said he was “very pleased” with his cameo, and revealed that “a lot of people got in touch” with him after they saw it.
“I’ve always wanted to play him again,” he said. “I see him as an extraordinary character, a real character of gravitas and importance in our culture. I’m delighted Beast is back and hope he’s back in a real way.”
IGN’s The Marvels review gave it 8/10 and said: “The Marvels is a triumph. Its depth can be seen not just through its characters, but through its story as it explores war's complicated fallout; the difficulty of being a human when you are perceived as a monolith; and the hilarious and complicated virtues of family. Both funny and heartfelt, Nia DaCosta’s MCU debut will have you asking when she and her leading ladies are coming back immediately after the credits roll. It’s a pity that the villain isn’t given much to do, though.”
