Murder, She Wrote Movie in the Works From Dumb Money Writers

Murder, She Wrote is getting a movie reboot from Dumb Money writers Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo.

According to Variety, Blum and Angelo signed on to pen a new chapter of Murder, She Wrote for Universal before the Writers Guild of America (WGA) opted to strike, and neither will return to work on the screenplay until the union reaches a deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).

Blum and Angelo, whose credits also include the Netflix comedy-drama Orange Is the New Black, are joined on the project by Spider-Man franchise producer Amy Pascal, who previously received two Academy Award Best Picture nominations for 2017's political thriller The Post and 2019's Little Women adaptation.

Airing for 12 seasons on CBS between 1984 and 1996, the original Murder, She Wrote series starred the late Angela Lansbury as Jessica Fletcher, a murder-mystery novelist and amateur detective who becomes embroiled in solving real-life homicide investigations in the fictional town of Cabot Cove in Maine.

The acclaimed series spawned four television movies in the years after its conclusion, with the final film arriving in 2003. The franchise also expanded into video games, evoking the feel and themes of the long-running television series, with the first point-and-click adventure released for PC in 2009 and a sequel in 2012.

Before Blum and Angelo get back on the case with the Murder, She Wrote movie reboot, Dumb Money, the film adaptation of Ben Mezrich's The Antisocial Network, will release in limited theaters on September 15. It will then move into a moderate release on September 22 and open wide on September 29 (previously October 6). Check out IGN's Dumb Money review to find out what we thought.
