Loki executive producer Kevin Wright has confirmed that Jonathan Majors' new Kang variant, Victor Timely, will be woven into the threads of Season 2 and ultimately become "a big part of the show".
Victor Timely's appearance in the post-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania seemingly set the character up for a significant role in Loki Season 2, as Tom Hiddleston's God of Mischief and Owen Wilson's Agent Mobius watched Kang's mysterious Victorian alter-ego present a stage show about the fabric of space-time.
The trailers for Loki Season 2 revealed fresh footage of Majors as Victor Timely, reaffirming the return of the dimension-hopping villain. Wright told EW that the creative team behind Loki were "excited" to bring Timely into the MCU fold and confirmed that the character would feature prominently in the new batch of episodes.
"Victor Timely is somebody that we are very, very excited about," Wright declared. "When you look at Kang, he has a very funny comic backstory. He has all these iterations. Timely was one that we've always wanted to do in Loki. And I think we're really excited about how that integrates into the season. It's a big part of the show."
Uncertainty surrounding Majors' role in the second season of Loki followed the actor's arrest on assault and harassment charges in March after an alleged domestic dispute. A judge set Majors' trial date for August 3, but the date shifted after prosecutors requested more time to prepare for the hearing.
As a result of these ongoing legal issues, Majors' central role of Kang and his place in the MCU suddenly became more controversial and complex for Marvel Studios, adding to a tumultuous period that has found its newer TV shows like Secret Invasion failing to garner the massive audiences and critical acclaim of the past.
Only time will tell how everything plays out. However, Disney+ will launch Season 2 of Loki on October 6, thrusting "the infamous God of Mischief into a new set of adventures with the TVA". Fans can catch up on the story so far by popping the Loki Blu-ray or 4K UHD in their disc drive on September 26. Preorders are live now.
