See One Piece's Japanese Cast Voicing Netflix's Live-Action Remake in New Trailer

In a sweet call-out to fans of the anime, Netflix has released a trailer (which you can watch here) for its One Piece series that has the anime’s Japanese voice cast dubbing over the English-speaking live-action cast.

The original Straw Hat voice actors – Mayumi Tanaka, Kazuya Nakai, Akemi Okamura, Kappei Yamaguchi, and Hiroaki Hirata – can all be heard in the trailer, dubbing over their live-action counterparts Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu Arata, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero Gibson, and Taz Skylar. And there’s a lot more where that came from: Netflix previously announced that the original voice cast would be reprising their roles for the live-action One Piece Japanese dub, bringing some of the spirit of the beloved anime to the adaptation.

Along with the dubbed trailer, Netflix also released a new letter from One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda.

"The live-action One Piece!!" the letter (which can be seen below) reads, in part. "Since it's Netflix, you can watch it in your household or on your smartphone. But it might as well be a movie, so you should watch it on as big a sceen as possible, with the volume cranked up, and enjoy it as many times as you'd like!!"

This isn’t Oda’s first correspondence in regards to the adaptation; showrunner Matt Owens previously talked about how he had specific demands for Netflix’s take, and Oda released a letter in May saying that the new One Piece “won’t launch until I’m satisfied.”

Apparently, Oda is satisfied, since the live-action One Piece will debut on Netflix on Aug. 31. For more, check out our breakdown of the real reason Netflix might have been keeping its cards close to the chest on One Piece for so long.
