Insidious Taking A 'Very Long Rest' After The Red Door

Insidious: The Red Door will be the last Insidious film we see for a while.

During an interview with Discussing Film, producer Jason Blum confirmed that the Insidious franchise will be taking a break after the upcoming sequel.

“You better see this Insidious,” said Blum with a laugh. “It's the last one. To give a more serious answer, [The Red Door] is going to be the last we're going to see of Insidious for a while.”

Insidious: The Red Door is set 10 years after the events of Insidious 2 and sees the return of Josh Lambert (Wilson), as well as his son Dalton (Ty Simpkins).

Alongside other Insidious stalwarts such as Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, and Leigh Whannell it looks as though they might be getting back together for one big send-off. In fact, it was Wilson in his debut as a director who brought back the original cast.

But don’t worry, Insidious maybe back eventually. “It may not be a forever rest, but it's certainly going to be a very long rest,” said Blum. “So, if someone comes up with some idea in 10 years, who knows? But there's not a plan — as there has been with every prior Insidious movie — there's no current plan in place for number six.”

Heading back to The Further in the upcoming sequel, the Lamberts are looking to put an end to the hauntings once and for all.

“I think James really laid the groundwork with the Lambert family to make them really compelling,” added Blum. “People are very connected to their journey, they want to see what happens to them next. I think the tone of the movies is very unique too. They’re a lot funnier than most horror movies. So, when you’re going to see an Insidious movie, you know you’re going to be scared, but you also know you’ll have a good time. I think there are a lot of reasons, but those are kind of the two primary reasons that the franchise has had such staying power.”

Insidious: The Red Door debuts in theaters on July 7, 2023.
