Yellowjackets Co-Creator Promises a Bonus Episode Ahead of Season 3

Yellowjackets co-creator Ashley Lyle has revealed that the Showtime series will get a bonus episode before Season 3 hits our screens.

The sophomore season of Yellowjackets recently aired its finale, and it was even wilder than we could have imagined. The episode left fans eagerly anticipating what's to come next season, with some even holding out hope for a teaser of the events that might transpire.

Responding to someone on Twitter, Lyle confirmed that there would be an extra episode ahead of the show's third chapter. "There will be a bonus episode between seasons," Lyle wrote. "But I love you guys, and I don't want y'all to lose sleep thinking it's tonight."

The confirmation of an additional episode between seasons certainly generated a lot of buzz among fans. However, in another tweet, Lyle warned fans that this episode would drop "closer" to Season 3, adding, "I'm not being coy, there's a strike, and things are complicated!"

The Writer's Guild of America is on strike, grinding many movies and TV series in development to a halt. Lyle previously shared that writing on Yellowjacket's third season had paused, though its writers were looking forward to reconvening "as soon as the #WGA gets a fair deal."

Yellowjackets tells the story of a high school soccer team involved in a plane crash in 1996 whilst en route to Seattle for a national tournament. Showtime renewed the hit drama for a third season in December 2022, ahead of the debut of its second season in March 2023.

Season 2 reunited us with the survivors of the plane crash, chronicling their lives in both the '90s and the present day. However, IGN's review of the second season noted that it made "missteps with its present-day storytelling that dilutes the potency of its adult ensemble."
