Samuel L. Jackson Stands Up For Marvel Co-Star Brie Larson Against Online Hate

Samuel L. Jackson has spoken out in support of Marvel co-star Brie Larson over the abuse she receives online for expressing feminist views.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Jackson explained how he and Larson became good friends over the course of several films and said "Brie's a stronger person than people give her credit for".

"We bonded through the election while we were doing her movie when Donald Trump won," Jackson said. "She was broken and I was like, 'Don’t let ‘em break you. You have to be strong now.'

"When she got Captain Marvel, she called me and was like: 'They want me in the Marvel Universe. Should I do it?' And I was like, 'Hell yeah! Let’s do it!' But she’s not going to let any of that stuff destroy her.

"These incel dudes who hate strong women, or the fact that she’s a feminist who has an opinion and expressed it? Everybody wants people to be who they want them to be. She is who she is, and she’s genuinely that."

Jackson returns as Nick Fury alongside Larson as Carol Danvers (better known as Captain Marvel) in The Marvels, which will see the two joined up with Ms. Marvel's Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan and Wandavision's Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau.

It will premiere on November 10, with Marvel giving fans its first look in April with a two-minute trailer. Those eager to see more of Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe can otherwise check out Secret Invasion, which premieres on Disney+ today, June 21.
