Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix Gets First Teaser, Will Release This Year

Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, Netflix and Ubisoft's upcoming anime series inspired by the Far Cry 3 DLC Blood Dragon and starring various Ubisoft characters, got its first teaser today, as well as a Fall 2023 release window.

The first look was unveiled during today's Ubisoft Summer Forward Presentation. Series creator Adi Shankar took the stage to introduce the clip, calling the series a "love letter to the '90s."

That trailer was a brief but colorful look at the adult anime series, which showed off several Easter eggs to various Ubisoft IP. In a press release issued after the reveal of the teaser, Ubisoft said in a plot synopsis:

"The series is set in an alternative 1992 in the country formerly known as the USA.Now called Eden, it is a technocracy ruled by propaganda and corruption. Super-soldier Dolph Laserhawk has just been betrayed by the love of his life and locked up in Eden’s top security prison Supermaxx. He must now lead a team of rebel outcasts on risky undercover missions in order to survive."

In a passionate intro Shankar, who's also known for his work on Netflix's Castlevania anime, said he first got a call from Ubisoft about Captain Laserhawk seven years ago. He said they asked him to adapt one of their "very, very, very serious franchises into an anime."

"But instead, I came back to them with a crazy concept inspired by the mood of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon," he went on. "This concept used Ubisoft's cast library of characters and remixed them into one delirious anime series that would become this love letter to the '90s - or at least how I remember the '90s."

"This show," he went on, "is many things: it's violent. It's a a dystopian fiction in the spirit of the works of Aldous Huxley. It's a spoof, it's a satire, it's dark comedy. It's a love story. And as a descendant of Indian mystics, I can tell you it's philosophically conscious show you've watched in a long time."

Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix was first unveiled in 2021 with a six-episode order.
