Yellowstone Will End With Season Five, But a Sequel Show Is Coming

Yellowstone will officially end with Season 5, but a sequel series has already been picked up and given a straight-to-series order.

The first half of Yellowstone's fifth season has already aired, and now we know that the final batch of episodes from that show will roll out in November this year, with the sequel series launching on Paramount Network and Paramount+ sometime in December.

No plot or casting details have been announced for the sequel series yet, but Matthew McConaughey's name has been in the mix. He was said to be in talks to star in a Yellowstone spin-off in February, along with some of the cast from the flagship show.

"Yellowstone has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits - from 1883 to Tulsa King, and I am confident our Yellowstone sequel will be another big hit, thanks to the brilliant creative mind of Taylor Sheridan and our incredible casts who bring these shows to life," said Chris McCarthy, President and CEO Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios.

"The Dutton story continues, picking up where Yellowstone leaves off in another epic tale. We are thrilled to bring this new journey to audiences around the world," added David Glasser, CEO, 101 Studios.

The first part of Yellowstone's fifth season broke records, with the premiere garnering an impressive number of viewers and becoming the top scripted series premiere of 2022. However, reports of the series potentially concluding surfaced shortly thereafter.

According to those reports, it had become increasingly difficult to schedule filming around the show's lead star Kevin Costner, who has led Yellowstone as John Dutton since its debut in 2018. He also won a Golden Globe for his work on the series earlier this year.

It's little surprise that Paramount Network would want to keep investing in Yellowstone with or without Costner. Its other spinoffs include 1883, which concluded last year, and 1923, starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. Another spinoff, 6666, is still on the way too.
