Wolverine in Deadpool 3 Is 'Something Completely New' Compared to Previous Hugh Jackman Films

Ryan Reynolds has said that Hugh Jackman will have "something completely new" to bring to his Wolverine character in Deadpool 3.

Jackman retired from the role of Wolverine but decided to come back for Deadpool 3. In a recent interview with ET Canada, Reynolds explained how they managed to get him on board by pitching a version of the character that was different from the previous iterations we've seen.

"I think he was ready. I think he was excited," he said. "What we pitched him was enough of a divergence from the character that he knows and the character that he's left behind that it gives him something completely new to play and something that he's really excited to do."

Jackman has previously explained why he opted to return despite promising that Logan would be his final outing as the character, saying that he had made the decision to retire before Deadpool even came out and realized he may have missed out on one more opportunity.

Deadpool 3 will be the first Deadpool film made under the MCU banner but will retain the R-rating. The idea for the Deadpool-Wolverine team-up had been brewing for a long time and was one of the first pitches Reynolds had when meeting Kevin Feige after the Fox acquisition.

Both Reynolds and Jackman will be joined in Deadpool 3 by Stefan Kapicic and Morena Baccarin, who will reprise their respective roles as Colossus and Vanessa alongside Karan Soni and Leslie Uggams, who will be back on our screens as Dopinder and Blind AI.

Deadpool 3 will be released on November 8, 2024, which puts it in the MCU's Phase 5. Check out our six burning questions for Deadpool 3 and why we think Wolverine should finally wear his yellow suit.
