A brand-new trailer for Marvel's Secret Invasion has been released, and it showcases Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury returning to Earth for "one last fight" against an invasion of shape-shifting Skrulls who are threatening to take over the world.
Secret Invasion will be released on Disney+ on June 21, 2023, and a brand-new synopsis for the series reveals more of what fans can expect from the upcoming MCU project.
"In Secret Invasion, set in the present-day MCU, Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill, and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth," the synopsis reads. "Together they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity."
The trailer features some very interesting moments and questions for MCU fans, as it starts with Ben Mendelsohn's Talos telling Fury that things have gotten much worse since he's been gone in space. If you remember in Captain Marvel's post-credits scene, it was confirmed Fury was off-planet and working with the Skrulls. So, not all of the Skrulls are bad, just this particular faction it seems.
We also get a glimpse of Emilia Clarke's G'iah, who is a "refugee kid" Skrull who also happens to be Talos' daughter. She isn't too happy with Nick Fury when he can't keep some promises he made.
Lastly, while we get to see the return of some familiar faces, including Don Cheadle's James Rhodes a.k.a. War Machine, it addresses head on that Fury will mostly be on his own for this fight when the question is asked, "Where are the Avengers?" Fury responds by saying, "This war is one I have to fight. Alone."
The trailer arrives after Marvel confirmed the June 21 release date and shared a striking poster for the series that saw cut images of Nick Fury in black and white and a Skrull in color, all cut together like two cut pieces of paper overlapping.
