Five Nights at Freddy's Film Premieres Just in Time for Halloween

Jason Blum’s Five Nights At Freddy's movie adaptation will be released days before Halloween on October 27 2023 following a lengthy production cycle.

“Five Nights at Freddy's fans: You asked and we delivered,” tweeted Blum. “[The FNAF movie] is coming this Halloween on October 27. 2023! 205 days until the party. And that is the big news”.

As reported by Variety, the video game adaptation will release day and date at cinemas and on the Peacock streaming service. This simultaneous date approach was also adopted for a number of Blum’s previous movies including the 2022 horror flick Halloween Ends.

The Five Nights at Freddy’s movie has had its fair share of production woes since it was first announced back in 2015. Blum’s production company, Blumhouse, acquired the rights to the movie in 2017 after Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema pulled the movie from production.

Blum had initially tapped Harry Potter director Chris Columbus to helm the movie, with himself and the game’s creator Scott Cawthon attached as producers. In November 2018, Cawthon tossed the working screenplay out over concerns that it didn’t match his vision for the movie.

"It’s been a real challenge for everyone, including myself, to come up with a good screenplay for this." explained Cawthon at the time. "But I’m determined to find the right story. I’m sticking to what I’ve always said, either the right movie gets made or no movie gets made."

Columbus later departed the project, forcing Blumhouse to find a new director in Emma Tammi. Filming finally began in February this year, with Matthew Lillard and Josh Hutcherson being cast in leading roles.
