The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and the Link Amiibo Are Up for Preorder

The sequel to Breath of the Wild is called The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It's set to release exclusively for Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023. While it was initially available for preorder at numerous retailers for $59.99, it now costs $69.99 everywhere, both in physical and digital form (see it at Amazon). There's also a new Link amiibo available for preorder (see it at Best Buy).

In addition to the standard edition, a collector's edition will also be available, featuring an art book, pins, and more. We have all the details you need below.

Preorder The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The standard edition retails for $69.99, or £59.99 in the UK, and just comes with the game itself, with no additional bonus items.

Link - Tears of the Kingdom amiibo

It would hardly be a Zelda game if Nintendo didn't release an amiibo alongside it. This is the Tears of the Kingdom Link amiibo, set to release May 12, the same day as the game.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Collector's Edition

Nintendo has announced that a collector's edition of the game will be available at select retailers for $129.99. It has already gone up at Best Buy and GameStop -- and sold out within minutes. We'll add links here when it comes online at other retailers. Here's what's included in the collector's edition of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom:

  • Art book
  • Pin set
  • Steelbook case
  • Iconart poster

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Preorder Bonus

While there are no universal preorder bonuses available at all retailers, GameStop is offering one of its own -- at least while supplies last. Preorder there, and you get a free wooden plaque.... Interesting. Note that people who order online are supposed to print their confirmation page and bring it to a local store to receive their bonus.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Is Game Voucher Eligible

One of the benefits a Nintendo Switch Online membership is that it lets you use Game Vouchers. The idea is, you buy a pair of game vouchers for $99.98, and you can use them on eligible digital games on the eShop, effectively making each game cost $49.99.

Since The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom normally costs $69.99, using a voucher basically gets you a $20 discount. Not too shabby if you're an NSO member who wants to buy the game in digital format.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Trailer

What Is The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

A new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom debuted during the Nintendo Direct on September 13, 2022. You can watch that one below.

First announced with a teaser trailer at E3 2019, Tears of the Kingdom (formerly known as Breath of the Wild 2) is a sequel to what many fans agree is one of the best games ever made. Nintendo has has taken its time and shown relatively little of the game ever since.

The E3 2021 trailer (see above) shows Link skydiving and then paragliding from high in the air above Hyrule. You can clearly see floating landmasses in the sky as well. And after it shows Link use his ability to freeze items and send them hurtling through the air, it also shows him using a flame thrower and teleporting vertically through the stone of one of the floating isles. Hmm.

There's still plenty we don't know about The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but with the spring 2023 release date announced, we know it won't be too terribly long before we'll get to play it for ourselves.
