Good Burger 2 is Happening, And Kenan and Kel Are Back Too

Good Burger, home of the Good Burger, is officially back in business.

Paramount+ and Nickelodeon Studios have greenlit a sequel to the cult '90s movie, with original stars Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell returning to reprise their roles as Dexter and Ed.

The duo proudly announced the news on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday. Thompson called it a "blessing" to be back, saying that they have both wanted to make a sequel since the first movie hit theaters over two decades ago.

According to Variety, the cameras will start rolling on Good Burger 2 in a matter of months, with production set to begin in May ahead of the sequel's premiere on Paramount+ later this year.

Per the official logline for the movie, "Dexter Reed is down on his luck after another one of his inventions fails. Ed welcomes Dex back to Good Burger with open arms and gives him his old job back. With a new crew working at Good Burger, Dex devises a plan to get back on his feet but unfortunately puts the fate of Good Burger at risk once again."

The first movie, released in 1997, was based on the Good Burger sketch from the Nickelodeon series All That. The sequel will bring back its original writers, Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert, who also serve as executive producers, along with fellow writer James III.

"I can't believe it's been a little over 25 years since great customer service was born at Good Burger!" Thompson said in a statement. "Being a part of something so many generations of people have come to love has made me so proud, and now to be back where it all began working on the sequel is surreal!"

"Ed is one of those timeless characters that has brought so much joy and laughter to fans, and it's such a beautiful blessing to still be doing it after all these years," Mitchell added. "It's super awesome to come back and continue the stories of Dex, Ed and Good Burger for both the people who grew up watching and their kids."

Phil Traill will direct Good Burger 2, which comes after years of talks of a potential sequel or reboot and follows a 2015 reunion sketch on The Tonight Show, which previously whet fans appetites for what could happen if Good Burger ever decided to open its doors again.
