HBO Max Is About to Get More Expensive in the U.S.

HBO Max has announced its first ever price hike as the streaming service and home of Game of Thrones' House of the Dragon and the upcoming Last of Us series will increase to $15.99 a month.

Currently priced at $14.99, the one dollar price increase is the first bump in cost for the service since it launched in May 2020.

The changes are effective immediately, as of January 12, for new customers, while existing customers will see the increase when their next bill is charged on or after February 11. Customers therefore have just under a month to cancel their subscription if they are unhappy with the new price.

"This price increase of one dollar will allow us to continue to invest in providing even more culture-defining programming and improving our customer experience for all users," HBO Max said in a press release.

The price hike comes just a few days before HBO Max's next premiere show, The Last of Us, premieres on January 16. The show stars Game of Thrones stars Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal as protagonists Ellie and Joel as they venture through a post-apocalyptic United States.

In our 9/10 review of the series, IGN said: "HBO's The Last of Us is a stunning adaptation that should thrill newcomers and enrich those already familiar with Joel and Ellie's journey alike."
