Avatar: The Way of Water is Now the Fourth-Highest-Grossing Film of All Time

Avatar: The Way of Water continues to dominate the box office since its release just over a month ago, and now holds the title for the fourth highest-grossing film of all-time.

As reported by Variety, Avatar: The Way of Water, now at $2.075B globally, recently surpassed Star Wars: The Force Awakens massive $2.071B box office total from 2015. This feat arrives on the heels of becoming just the sixth movie to gross $2B globally at the box office, as well as blazing past the MCU's second-highest-grossing film in Avengers: Infinity War just a couple days ago.

With its current fourth-place standing, Avatar: The Way of Water turns its sights to Titanic next, which it's about $120M away from surpassing to take the third-place spot.

Director James Cameron can finally breath a sigh of relief as he notably quoted that his long-awaited Avatar sequel would "...have to be the third or fourth highest-grossing film in history," Cameron said about turning a profit on the movie. "That's your threshold. That's your break even."

If that wasn't enough for Cameron to celebrate, he is now the proud director of three of the top four movies globally of all-time: Avatar, Titanic, and Avatar: The Way of Water.

Despite the success of Avatar: The Way of Water, Cameron is already dropping hints about the upcoming third film including his decision to remove Jake Sully as narrator, as well as the introduction of an aggressive Fire Na'vi clan.
