Joker: Folie à Deux Gets a First Look Image as Production Begins

Joker: Folie à Deux director Todd Phillips has shared the first look image of the sequel that will see Joaquin Phoenix returning as the legendary villain.

Phillips shared the image on Instagram alongside the caption, "Day 1. Our boy. #joker." In the image, Phoenix's Joker appears to be an inmate at Arkham Asylum and is getting a shave from a worker there.

Joker: Folie à Deux will be released in theater on October 4, 2024, and will see Lady Gaga starring alongside Phoenix. We don't know much yet about the film, but it has been reported that Lady Gaga will play Harley Quinn and that the sequel very well may be a musical.

Joining Phoenix and Gaga will be Harry Potter and Paddington 2 star Brendan Gleeson and Maze Runner's Jacob Lofland. While we have yet to learn much about Gleeson's role, Lofland is said to be playing an Arkham Asylum inmate and friend of Arthur Fleck aka The Joker.

The first Joker film was released in 2019 and IGN gave it a rare 10/10. In our Joker review, we said it "isn’t just an awesome comic book movie, it’s an awesome movie, period. It offers no easy answers to the unsettling questions it raises about a cruel society in decline. Joaquin Phoenix’s fully committed performance and Todd Phillips’ masterful albeit loose reinvention of the DC source material make Joker a film that should leave comic book fans and non-fans alike disturbed and moved in all the right ways."
