Author Rick Riordan has announced the sixth mainline Percy Jackson and the Olympians book, The Chalice of the Gods, eight years after the previous novel was released.
Riordan announced on Twitter (below) that The Chalice of the Gods will be released on September 26, 2023 and continue the story of its main characters Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Grover Underwood.
While Riordan released a sequel series to Percy Jackson and the Olympians that featured the same characters and continued to 2014, this new entry is specifically a continuation of the original Percy Jackson and the Olympians series which ended in 2009 with The Last Olympian.

The announcement comes just one month after Disney released the first trailer for its new Percy Jackson and the Olympians adaptation. The series was first announced in 2020 and Disney later received backlash for its casting of Annabeth, who will be played by the black actress Leah Sava Jeffries.
Trolls upset by the casting rallied to have the 12-year-old's TikTok account banned, prompting Riordan to defend her casting. "If you have a problem with this casting, take it up with me," he said. "You have no one else to blame.
"Whatever else you take from this post, we should be able to agree that bullying and harassing a child online is inexcusably wrong. As strong as Leah is, as much as we have discussed the potential for this kind of reaction and the intense pressure this role will bring, the negative comments she has received online are out of line. They need to stop. Now."
Disney's series will be the second adaptation of Riordan's books as a Percy Jackson film from 20th Century Fox (that Disney now owns) premiered in 2010, alongside a sequel three years later. They weren't very well received, however, and the series went no further.
